HELP a FRIEND
SJ Willing, one of our favorite people and the author of the frame story for Dunvegas, is in trouble. Five years after pancreas surgery that was supposed to fix things, but didn't, his pancreas has shut down completely. With proper medication, he can thrive. Without it, he will die. Soon. The problem is he doesn't have insurance to cover it and the meds cost over $250 a month.
Thirteen Reasons to help SJ

Popcorn Trick?
If anyone manages to make this work, it might make for some serious concerns about cell phone radiation, eh?
Thanks to Deck for this link!
Well, I hate to burst a bubble, but I have it on good authority that this is a well-staged trick. There just isn't enough energy in the phones to come even close.
Cute stunt though.

CelFones and Driving
Here's a
WEB MD article
on a series of test that show celfone usage while driving is the same as driving drunk! I agree. I've reached the point that if I get a call while driving, I try to find a spot to pull over or else ask the person to call back.

Sorry for the delay, but I've had company for the last week. Lots of interesting things are happening, I've just not had time to breath.

Possible Cancer Cure?
There is a drug that has been in limited use for other illnesses that
appears to cure several types of cancers
. The problem is that it is unpatentable. Drug companies will not research it because without a patent, they cannot reclaim their research funding. It will remain the provence of some non-profit entity to pay the research bill to get it approved by the FDA.

Friends
"You can be at ease only with those people to whom you can say any damn fool thing that comes into your head, knowing they will respond in kind, and knowing that any misunderstandings will be thrashed out right now, rather than buried deep and given a chance to fester."

Speaking in Tongues Brainmapping
This is an interesting line of research.
I wonder if similar scans have been done to those who are in other trance states, like hypnosis or shamanistic journeys?

Awaken from a Brain Dead State?
It appears as if
a certain sleeping pill has a 'reset' effect
on the brain and can waken some people that the docs are ready to write off as 'brain dead'.

Magic Memory Molecule
A team at SUNY has
discovered a molecule
that allows us to store long-term memories. If it is decreased, you forget things and if it is increased, you remember things better. It has been shown to be able to erase and then replace memories. This is both incredibly exciting as well as scary.

A Very Interesting Person
This fellow
can recite PI to thousands of decimal places, but has a very difficult time with what we consider 'normal' emotions. I can't help but wonder what would happen if we could somehow harness this ability when needed.

No Home Heating Bills for 25 Years!
This researcher and his wife
added a solar greenhouse to their home
with a series of sub-floor water tanks for passive energy storage and have not paid a home heating bill since 1980! There have been many similar places built over the years, but the initial costs and lack of technical knowledge seems to have hampered development. I have a magazine from the 70's called 'Shelter' that shows the basic technique. It would be nice to see some more of these efforts.
